When I was confirmed most had red waistcoats on their Sunnhordland bunads, but I would rather have blue which was a lesser used alternative. Now it’s probably just as common to have blue as red (it also comes in green). The color of the bunad jewelry and the pattern on the belt and the breast cloth are many and optional.
After a while I replaced the white linen apron that my grandmother made for my confirmation, with this woven one that a skilled neighbor has woven – since it is very impractical with linen that gets creased in no time.
I also have a dark blue cape for colder days, but it is rarely used – especially not in the good temperature of this year’s national day.
My album of self portraits here.
